Transfer printed laser induced graphene strain gauges for embedded sensing in fiberglass composites

نویسندگان

چکیده

The continuous monitoring of strain in fiber-reinforced composites while service typically requires bonding a network sensors to the surface composite structure. To eliminate such needs, and reduce bulk limit additional weight, this work utilizes transfer printing laser induced graphene (LIG) gauges onto commercial fiberglass prepreg for situ self-sensing strain. resultant embedded sensor is entirely integrated within final material, therefore reducing weight eliminating limitations due external compared current alternatives. Additionally, simple process used here allows customization size sensing requirements various applications. LIG shown be capable tracking monotonic cyclic as during tensile loading unloading host composite, also proving dynamic motion which characterized via frequency response sinusoidal base excitation. gauge can thus either quasi-static or variations determination deformation experienced by well content material structural health purposes.

Hysteresis and Material Effects of Printed Strain Gauges Embedded in Organic Coatings

This work reports on the hysteresis behavior and an initial baseline drift of printed strain gauges embedded in organic coating layers on sheet steel that we recently introduced. We subsequently investigated the performance over an extended period of time, which revealed interesting and partially unexpected material properties of printed strain gauges made from silver and carbon. Both silverand...

LiCoO2 Texturing by Laser Induced Forward Transfer for Printed Microbatteries

Laser induced forward transfer (LIFT) is used to print Li-ion battery electrodes. We show a preferred orientation of LiCoO2 particles in the (003) direction relative to non-laser transferred materials. While the laser energy does not alter the degree of orientation, the number of passes and transfer distance both have a significant influence on the observed texturing. We use a geometric argumen...

Embedded Strain Gauges for Condition Monitoring of Silicone Gaskets

A miniaturized strain gauge with a thickness of 5 µm is molded into a silicone O-ring. This is a first step toward embedding sensors in gaskets for structural health monitoring. The signal of the integrated sensor exhibits a linear correlation with the contact pressure of the O-ring. This affords the opportunity to monitor the gasket condition during installation. Thus, damages caused by faulty...

CMOS integration of inkjet-printed graphene for humidity sensing

We report on the integration of inkjet-printed graphene with a CMOS micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) microhotplate for humidity sensing. The graphene ink is produced via ultrasonic assisted liquid phase exfoliation in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) polymer as the stabilizer. We formulate inks with different graphene concentrations, which are then deposited throu...
